DISCRIMINATION LAW
The Equality Act 2010 set out nine protected characteristics, making it unlawful for you to be discriminated against based on:
Discrimination in the workplace can take a number of different forms.
Discrimination can occur when an employer shows clear favouritism toward other employees at the expense of an individual with protected characteristics. In some cases, the discrimination is indirect, for instance, where the employer has rules or policies that disproportionately favour a group of employees over another.
Harassment can occur where any unwanted, whether sexual or otherwise, has the effect of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for you.
Victimisation will occur if after you have brought discriminatory conduct to your employer’s attention, you are treated differently or less favourably afterwards.
